Media workers in Greece have launched a 24-hour strike on Wednesday to protest the closure of state-run television channel ERT.
Greece's media unions including POSPERT, POESY and POEPTYM made a joint decision to launch a strike starting from 6 am Greece local time on Wednesday.
In the scope of the strike, all radio and television programs which were on air and planned to be broadcast were suspended. Greek News Agency, ANAMPA does not update their webpage or publish news stories.
All newspapers nationwide would also suspend their printing as all publishing media workers will take part at the strike, unions said.
All press meetings and other similar events have been canceled.
Protests were expected on Wednesday outside headquarters of ERT.
Unions said the strike would end only if the government revoke their decision of closing ERT.
Greek government's spokesman Simos Kedikoglu stated on Tuesday through ERT TV that all television channels and radio stations of ERT would be closed and a new institution would be set up which would not be owned by the government. Spokesman added that all ERT workers would receive their compensation.
