BEIRUT
Grandma Hatice, the face of the aid campaign for Syria "Winter arrived, Bread and Blanket for Syria", spoke to the Anadolu Agency (AA).
Tons of flour, food, clothing, shoes and blankets are distributed to Syrians under the aid campaign launched for Syrians who fled civil war in their country.
AA team met with 90-year-old Hatice Hassan Shihadi, whose photo was used on posters for the campaign and who became symbol of the tragedy in Syria, in Lebanon.
Grandma Hatice, who is living with her daughter, son and two grandchildren in a one-roomed house in Arsal village in Lebanon near Syrian border, suffers from lack of food and medicine.
AA team gave her food, clothing, blanket and medicine.
Grandma Hatice, who lost her two grandchildren in civil war in Syria, told AA that she only wanted to die in her country.
Hatice Hassan Shihadi said that soldiers of Assad destroyed their houses, stating that Assad forces bombarded the Syrian people.
"We could not stand it and came here. We try to survive with aids by people here. May God bless them. I am sick and I cannot afford medication. I am helpless. I only wish to die in my country," she said.
When AA reporter said, "Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan saw your photos in newspapers. He asked officials to give a special attention to you. What would you like to say?" Grandma Hatice said, "May God bless him. May God grant him a long life."
