CAIRO
Egypt's presidential contenders Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi and Hamdeen Sabahi have rejected a decision by the country's electoral commission to extend voting by one day.
"Our legal adviser has submitted a written objection to the election commission against extending the vote," Mahmoud Bakri, a member of al-Sisi's campaign, told Anadolu Agency on Tuesday.
"Our candidate was not consulted before this decision was taken," he added.
Bakri said the campaign "will consider not sending delegates to polling stations on Wednesday if the commission refused to reverse its decision."
Sabahi's campaign also rejected the decision to extend voting and submitted an official objection to the election commission.
"This unexpected decision seems to be the result of pressure from several parties to create more time for a scenario that could not be imposed on Egyptians during the past two days," the campaign said in a statement.
It said that the extension "raises a lot of questions among voters about the integrity of the entire electoral process."
Earlier Tuesday, Egypt's election commission extended the country's presidential vote by one day until Wednesday.
The two-day election had originally been scheduled to end on Tuesday.
The vote is the second step of an army-imposed transitional roadmap unveiled last July following the ouster of elected president Mohamed Morsi.
The roadmap, which also included a constitutional referendum in January, will conclude with parliamentary polls later this year.
The winner of the presidential elections will take over from interim president Adly Mansour, who was installed by the army following Morsi's ouster and subsequent imprisonment.
