CAIRO

Egyptian judicial authorities on Thursday increased from six to nine the number of judicial departments devoted to examining terrorism- and espionage-related cases.
The decision comes only days after interim President Adly Mansour gave a televised address in which he appealed to the head of the Cairo Appeals Court to raise the number of judicial departments tasked with investigating terrorism-related cases.
In a Thursday statement, Medhat Idriss, head of the Cairo Appeals Court's technical office, said the nine departments would be based at the court's Cairo headquarters and would begin operating early next month.
Last December, the court tasked six judicial departments with examining terrorism and incitement-to-violence charges brought against a number of people in recent months, during which Egypt has seen an uptick in violence.
Last week, at least six people were killed in a series of bombings in capital Cairo.
