BEIJING (AA) - A powerful typhoon hit China's southern Guangdong province coast, killing at least 29 since Sunday.
Typhoon Usagi cut off electricity, transportation, communication and water supplies in several regions of Guangdong, state media reported.
About 9 million were affected from the storm as the economic loss reached 17.7 billion yuan (nearly $2.9 billion) in Shanwei city.
Schools and state buildings in fourteen cities were closed, airlines canceled flights to cities in southern Guangdong and Fujian, while shipping was suspended between China and Taiwan.
Usagi died away due to tropical low pressure, however the downpour will reportedly continue for a while in the region.
