LEFKOSA
United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon's special envoy for Cyprus Alexander Downer began holding talks in Cyprus after recently meeting Ban Ki-moon in New York.
Downer first met the Greek Cypriot leader Demetris Christofias on Friday. No statement was released following Downer's meeting with Christofias.
Alexander Downer will be received by the Turkish Cypriot President Dervis Eroglu on Friday afternoon.
After his meeting with Eroglu, Downer will hold a press conference at the buffer zone in Lefkosa on Friday and give information on the Cyprus process.
Eroglu and Christofias had a meeting on March 29 before Downer's visit to New York. The two Cypriot leaders do not have any scheduled meetings in the near future.
Following his meeting with Downer, Ban Ki-moon had stated that not enough progress was made in Cyprus talks to hold a multi-lateral conference, an event that Turkish Cypriots insist on.
