ALEPPO, Syria
At least 40 Syrian soldiers died Saturday when Islamic Front fighters in Aleppo blew up a building used as a military headquarters by government forces, opposition media sources said.
A unit linked to the Islamic Front reportedly dug a tunnel into the building before blowing it up, according to media outlets close to the opposition.
The Islamic Front is a merger of seven Islamist rebel factions involved in the Syrian civil war.
Several soldiers, deployed by the Syrian regime, were reportedly injured in the attack, reports said. The attack was followed by violent clashes between members of the opposition and Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s forces.
