Iraqi forces have freed three Americans who went missing in Iraq last month, the State Department confirmed Tuesday.
“We sincerely appreciate the assistance provided by the Government of Iraq, and its whole-of-government effort to bring about the safe release of these individual,” spokesman Mark Toner said in a statement.
“We express our gratitude to the Iraqi Security Forces, and in particular the Ministry of Defense and the Iraqi National Intelligence Service, for their role in achieving this outcome,” he added.
Toner did not specify details on the operation that led to their release.
The State Department had been working to locate and free the American trio who went missing in Baghdad Jan. 16. The security contractors had been abducted from an apartment reportedly known to be a brothel.
