Ertharin Cousin, Executive Director of the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), said that the generosity of Turkey, which opened its doors to Syrians escaping from clashes in their country, was more than expected.
Speaking to AA on Saturday, Cousin praised Turkey, which was hosting nearly 150,000 Syrians, for the steps it took against the crisis in Syria, and said that Turkey spent 400 million USD for Syrians so far.
Cousin had visited Syrians who took shelter in Jordan and Lebanon in the beginning of November, and she will begin her visit to Turkey on Sunday. Cousin will meet governmental officials as well as authorities from Red Crescent aid society in Ankara and Istanbul, and she will proceed to Kilis to see the camps.
This will be my first visit to Turkey as executive director, she said.
Cousin called on other countries to support Turkey on bilateral aspect as well as organizations such as WFP in international aspect.
