ANKARA
Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu received more than 250 children from 34 countries Tuesday in Ankara, ahead of the 95th anniversary of the foundation of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey.
On April 23, Turkey will celebrate the foundation of Turkish Grand National Assembly, which was founded in Ankara on 23 April, 1920 amid the Turkish War of Independence.
Turkey's founding leader Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, who was the first speaker of the Turkish Assembly, dedicated the day to the children of the world.
"Peace in the world can only be achieved with children because their worlds are free of hypocrisy and cheating," said Davutoglu. "They have only honesty and innocence"
Addressing the children, Davutoglu described them as the "world's cutest community."
"As the nations' future depends on protecting their sovereignty, humanity's future depends on protecting the children," he added.
The Turkish premier also pointed out that, in many parts of the world, children were victims of wars and hatred.
"We sympathize with children who are embargoed in Palestine, who are refugees from Syria, who suffered from drought in Somalia, who are the kids of immigrants who drowned in the Mediterranean," Davutoglu said.
