ANKARA (AA) – August 1, 2012 – Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu left for Irbil, Iraq on Wednesday to meet Massoud Barzani, head of the regional Kurdish administration in Iraq's north.
Prior to his departure, Davutoglu had a busy diplomacy traffic in Turkish capital Ankara.
Davutoglu had phone conversations with Iraqi Parliament Speaker Osama Nujeifi and Finance Minister Rafi Hiyad al-Issawi to discuss the recent developments in Iraq.
He also held separate meetings with Benin's Foreign Minister Nassirou Arifari Bako, and Somalia's Foreign Minister Abdullahi Haji Hassan at Foreign Ministry residence.
Benin's foreign minister said that his country was willing to open an embassy in Turkey. He added that they were expecting Turkish President Abdullah Gul to attend next year's African Union summit. Benin is currently the president of the Union.
Meanwhile, Somali minister thanked Turkey for its assistance to Somalia.
Davutoglu will meet Barzani in the afternoon, and attend a fast-breaking dinner.
