MEDINA, Saudi Arabia
A senior Turkish journalist died of a heart attack during President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s visit to Saudi Arabia on Wednesday.
Hasan Karakaya, 58, the editor-in-chief of Turkish daily newspaper Yeni Akit, collapsed at his hotel in Medina, Anadolu Agency’s correspondent with the presidential party reported.
Following efforts by Erdogan’s medical team, Karakaya was taken to King Fahd Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
During his two-day visit Erdogan met King Salman for talks focused on the civil war in Syria and energy cooperation. The president is due to return to Turkey on Thursday afternoon.
