It has been reported that a remote controlled, high-impact cluster bomb was used in the attack on the vehicle carrying the Turkish Consul General of Mosul, Ozturk Yilmaz.

A convoy of 3 vehicles carrying Turkish consulate officials was en route to Irbil when a roadside bomb was detonated at 10:07 am, 5 kms away from the consulate building. Following the attack, Iraqi police officers and security guards fired bullets into the air to prevent a second attack.

No casualties were reported from the attack but the armored vehicles suffered major damage.

Mosul security officers, who came to the crime scene and launched an investigation, reported that a roadside, remote controlled, high-impact cluster bomb was used in the attack. Since there was no other convoy on the road at the time, the Turkish Consul General was the likely target, but there is no evidence supporting this claim.

According to information acquired by AA, the bombs were detonated as an Iraqi registered vehicle overtook the convoy.

The vehicle was totally damaged as it received most of the impact. The security officers stated that this vehicle prevented the Turkish convoy from further damage.
