Mehmet Firat who has been holding botanic researches for 13 years in the mountains of southeastern province of Hakkari discovered the 24th plant which is believed to "have survived since the world existed" and named it "Clinopodium Hakkaricum."
Mehmet Firat, researcher at the Department of Biology at the Yuzuncu Yil University in eastern province of Van, introduced the plant at the "21st National Biology Congress" hosted by the Ege University in western province of Izmir to the many attendees from Turkey and abroad.
Answering the questions of AA, Firat said that he specifically wanted to name the plant something from the region and added, "I discovered this plant and specifically picked its name. Hakkari is always remembered with negativeness, I decided on Hakkari so Hakkari will call nicer things now."
