Turkey will support several human rights programs in Yemen in the coming period, Turkish ambassador in Sanaa Fazli Corman said Thursday.
Turkey will support programs aimed at promoting transitional justice, human rights and civil society in Yemen, Corman said at a rights conference sponsored by Yemen's Human Rights Ministry and the Turkish embassy.
The diplomat went on to laud recent political developments in Yemen. However, he said, the country would face more political and security challenges as it continues the transition to stability and democracy.
Yemen's ten-month-long national dialogue wrapped up in January with recommendations aimed at addressing the country's chronic political, social and economic problems.
The dialogue was attended by 565 delegates representing established parties, emerging political movements, youth activists, women leaders and civil society organizations.
A 23-member committee headed by President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi recently approved a plan dividing the country into six regions within a federal state. It is hoped that the move will pacify separatist movements that have called for session in several parts of the country, especially in the restive south.
Yemen has remained in a state of relative chaos since the ouster of long-serving president Ali Abdullah Saleh in early 2012 as part of the "Arab Spring" uprisings.
