Turkey: Over 600 village guards suspended from duty
Interior Ministry says village guards were suspended over ties to terror group that threaten national security
ANKARA
Turkey's Interior Ministry on Thursday suspended 635 village guards for allegedly carrying out activities that threaten national security and having links to terror groups.
In a statement, the ministry said 559 village guards were linked to or members of terror groups and 76 were involved in human and drug trafficking and smuggling.
The ministry added that the suspension was a temporary measure until a final decision on the matter is announced.
