ISTANBUL
Director General of Turkey's State Airports Authority (DHMI), Orhan Birdal on Saturday said that "following the opening of the third airport in Istanbul, there will be no more scheduled flights at the Ataturk Airport."
Speaking to reporters in Istanbul on Saturday, Birdal indicated that the Ataturk Airport may be used for different activities in the aviation sector, including a global aviation fair.
We will begin selling specifications as of January 28, Birdal stressed.
The new airport in Istanbul will reflect modernism and the Turkish culture, Birdal noted.
Istanbul's new airport will include a mosque, church and synagogue, Birdal said.
With the Sabiha Gokcen Airport, Istanbul's total passenger traffic has reached close to 60 million, Birdal stated.
This figure is almost half of all Turkey's air passengers, Birdal indicated.
In 2013, we expect passenger traffic to be 144 million and air traffic to be 1.5 million in Turkey, Birdal also said.
