Ankara (AA) - Turkish President Abdullah Gul and Turkey's main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) leader Kemal Kilicdaroglu met on Monday over the recent protests regarding Istanbul Taksim Gezi Park.
Following the meeting, Kilicdaroglu told reporters that he conveyed Gul that expressing demands was very natural in democracies.
Kilicdaroglu said he expressed his concerns about the protests, adding that the remarks of Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan could escalate the protests instead of calming down, and reminded Gul that President had some responsibilities.
I asked Gul to fulfill his responsibilities, said Kilicdaroglu.
Upon questions of reporters, Kilicdaroglu said that police used disproportionate force on protestors.
Kilicdaroglu said that prime minister should apologize to public, adding that they did not approve a protest which vandalized the public properties.
Protests should not turn into violence acts, otherwise, they become undemocratic, said Kilicdaroglu.
Meanwhile, CHP presented a motion to Turkish Parliament about the protests. CHP will ask the Parliament to debate the motion on Tuesday.
