ISTANBUL
Turkish President Abdullah Gul still refuses to comment on whether he will consider running for leadership of the ruling AK Party, in the light of current Prime Minister, Recep Tayyip Erdogan's announcement on Tuesday that he will run in presidential elections on August 10.
Answering reporters' questions while exiting a mosque after Friday prayers, Gul brushed aside questions about his future, saying that “It is not the right time to talk about these issues. We can discuss these when the time is right.”
According to the Turkish daily newspaper, Hurriyet, Bulent Arinc, deputy prime minister and senior figure of the party, hinted that President Gul could be next leader of the party.
Turkish citizens for the first time will be able to vote in the presidential elections.
