ANKARA
Turkey's ruling Justice and Development (AK) Party began collecting signatures from their deputies for a Constitutional amendment which would facilitate holding local elections earlier than scheduled.
Speaking to the Anadolu Agency (AA), AK Party's Group Deputy Chair Nurettin Canikli said that they were collecting signatures from the AK Party deputies so the local elections scheduled for 2014 take place earlier on October 27, 2013.
"Once we collect the signatures, we will take the proposal for a Constitutional amendment to the Turkish Parliament's General Assembly," Canikli stated.
On the other hand, the law on holding local elections earlier than scheduled will also be revised.
