Funeral takes place for late Turkish folk music singer Ertas

KIRSEHIR

A funeral took place for the late Turkish folk music singer and lyrics writer Neset Ertas at the Ahi Evran Mosque in central Anatolian province of Kirsehir on Wednesday.
The funeral was attended by hundreds of people. Among those attending the funeral was Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Chairman of the main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) Kemal Kilicdaroglu, Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Besir Atalay and Chief Judge of the Turkish Constitutional Court Hasim Kilic.
Ertas will be laid to eternal rest in Kirsehir.
Neset Ertas, Turkish folk music singer and lyrics writer, passed away on Tuesday.
Ertas, who was taken to hospital last week, was receiving treatment at oncology service of the Medical Park Hospital in western Izmir province.
Ertas died in the hospital on Tuesday.
Born in central Anatolian province of Kirsehir in 1938, Ertas is a virtuoso of the traditional Turkish instrument "baglama". His profession in Turkish is known as "halk ozani", which literally means "folk poet". Ertas interpreted musical pieces of the Abdal tradition.
