An Egyptian court on Thursday ordered the release of 84 people pending investigation into deadly August clashes in Cairo's Ramses Square, including Turkish journalist Metin Turan, a judicial source said.
The defendants are set to be released within two days, the source said.
According to the source, the release order is final and can't be appealed.
It remains unclear whether Turan, the Turkish journalist, would be able to leave the country after the court ruling.
On August 16, clashes erupted outside Cairo's Ramses Square between security forces and protesters angered by the killing two days earlier of hundreds of supporters of ousted president Mohamed Morsi.
In the ensuing violence, over 50 people were killed and 270 injured, according to the Egyptian Health Ministry.
Fleeing the violence, dozens of protesters took refuge inside the nearby Al-Fath Mosque, where they remained holed up before finally being rounded up by security forces.
The defendants, including Turan, who works for Turkish state broadcaster TRT, face charges of "incitement to violence" and "resisting authorities."
Meanwhile, Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu stated Thursday that Turkish state broadcaster TRT correspondent would be released by the Egyptian court pending a trial."
On his official Twitter account, Turkish top diplomat wrote that "TRT correspondent Metin Turan who remains in custody in Egypt is going to be released by the court pending a trial."
"The Turkish Embassy, already closely following the process, will make all necessary efforts for his release from now on," he added.
