ANKARA
Suat Kilic, Minister of Youth and Sports of Turkey, said that on behalf of Turkish society he thanks to people who were effective in decision process for nominating Turkey to host the 2020 Summer Olympics.
Kilic said that Istanbul, Madrid and Tokyo were nominated to host the 2020 Summer Olympics by International Olympics Committee (IOC) in Canadian city of Quebec.
Kilic said that five countries applied to host the olympics and other two countries will use their chance for the next olympics.
Kilic said, "This is a significant, expected and deserved decision of Turkey."
Minister of Youth and Sports added that the process should be handled by everyone and some mistakes which may occur could be corrected by people who all work together.
Dutch deputy pm congratulates Istanbul's 2020 olympic games candidacy
The Dutch deputy prime minister Thursday congratulated Istanbul on its candidacy to host 2020 olympic games.
Dutch Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economic Affairs, Agriculture, & Innovation Maxime Verhagen paid a courtesy visit to Istanbul Metropolitan Mayor Kadir Topbas.
During the meeting, Verhagen said he was visiting Turkey with representatives of 60 companies, and congratulated Istanbul on its candidacy for 2020 Olympic Games.
Verhagen the Netherlands wanted to share its architectural and technical know-how and experiences with Istanbul, and boost cooperation with private sector.
Also speaking in the meeting, Mayor Topbas said efforts were under way to declare Istanbul as sister cities with Rotterdam.
Maxime Verhagen is paying a visit to Istanbul on May 23-25 within the activities to mark the 400th anniversary of diplomatic and economic relations between Turkey and the Netherlands.
