Anti-narco-terror operation launched in southeastern Turkey
Nearly 2.5M cannabis roots destroyed in Diyarbakir province
DIYARBAKIR, Turkey
Turkish security forces on Wednesday launched an air-supported anti-narco-terror operation in the southeastern Diyarbakir province.
The operation is carried out by 87 teams, including gendarmerie commandos and security guards, at 115 different points in the rural areas of the Lice district.
Nearly 2.5 million cannabis roots have been detected and destroyed so far. Efforts are underway to trace 26 suspects involved in manufacturing drugs in the region.
Turkish authorities have been confiscating narcotics shipments owned or operated by the terrorist PKK since the 1980s.
Turkey’s long and ongoing crackdown on drugs has helped it fight narco-terrorism.
