ANKARA
Netherlands defeated Chile 2-0 in 2014 FIFA World Cup Group B match played at Arena de Sao Paulo on Monday.
After a goalless draw in the first half, the Netherlands, nicknamed "Oranje" (Orange), broke the deadlock against runners-up Chile in the 77th minute when Leroy Fer found the net with a header from a corner kick, resulting in a 1-0 score.
In injury time of the second half, 20-year-old Dutch forward Memphis Depay's goal on a breakaway clinched the victory for 'Oranje', 2-0.
The Group B leaders Netherlands, after their triumph over Chile, completed the group stage undefeated and qualified for round 16 in 2014 FIFA World Cup.
Despite the loss against Netherlands, runners-up Chile advanced to round 16 as well.
Meanwhile Spain, who were eliminated in the group stage after losing to Chile, beat Australia 3-0 in a consolation match. Goalscorers for Spain were David Villa, Fernando Torres and Juan Mata.
