UEFA announces for Women's Team of 2020 for first time, Cristiano Ronaldo makes shortlist for 17th consecutive year

ISTANBUL

The European football's governing body revealed on Tuesday a shortlist of players to be voted for the Team of the Year 2020.

"The 50 nominees for the women's and men's edition have been selected by the UEFA editorial team based on the players' performances in UEFA competitions and domestic competitions within UEFA member associations from January to December 2020," UEFA said in a statement.

The 2020 Women's Champions League winner Olympique Lyonnais dominated with 13 players, while the 2020 Men's Champions League title owner Bayern Munich were represented with 10 nominees.

The English Premier League has the joint-most representatives on the shortlist with 15 out of the 50 names.

Juventus' Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo was once again nominated as he shortlisted for the 17th year in a row.

Also, it is the first time that European football's governing body revealed nominees for the women’s Team of the Year.

Fans will be able to choose their favorite line-up from 50 women's and men's players -- five goalkeepers, 15 defenders, 15 midfielders, and 15 strikers-- before the deadline on Jan. 6, 2021.
