Turkish wrestling legend dies at age of 85

ANKARA

A former Turkish wrestler Tevfik Kis passed away at the age of 85 in Turkey's capital Ankara on Wednesday.

His funeral ceremony will be in Ankara on Thursday, Turkish Wrestling Federation said on its website.

The federation offered its condolences to the family and relatives of "one of the Turkish wrestling legends".

Kis was one of the important wrestling figures for Turkey as he won gold medal in 1960 Summer Olympics in Rome.

He was also decorated with gold medals in world championships in US (1962) and Finland (1963).

Kis, who became the European champion in Germany in 1966, retired from wrestling in 1968.

He was married and had two children.
