ISTANBUL

The Turkish Airlines Euroleague 2018-2019 season got underway Thursday with four matches.

In an away match, Turkey's Anadolu Efes beat Germany's Bayern Munich 90-71 at the Audi Dome in Munich.

The last Euroleague champions, Real Madrid, defeated Darussafaka Tekfen 109-93 at home at the Wizink Center.

A total of 16 teams are competing this season -- four Spanish, three Turkish, two Russian, two Greek and one team each from Germany, Italy, Israel, Lithuania and Montenegro.

The last Euroleague finalist, Turkey's Fenerbahce, will host Spain's Herbalife Gran Canaria on Friday in Istanbul at 1745 GMT.

Euroleague competitions bring Europe's top basketball clubs together.

Panathinaikos (Greece) 89-84 Maccabi FOX (Israel)
