Senegal defeated nine-man Cape Verde 2-0 on Tuesday to progress to the quarterfinals of the Africa Cup of Nations.

Sadio Mane opened the scoring in the second half soon after Cape Verde keeper Vozinha was sent off for a collision with the Liverpool forward.

Vozinha clashed headfirst with Mane after charging out of his box to intercept a long goal kick, with a video assistant referee review deeming the keeper's challenge worthy of a red card.

Mane, who was allowed to continue despite seemingly being knocked out briefly by the clash of heads, curled in a shot off the crossbar from a corner minutes later.

However, Mane was unable to play on after the goal and was forced off the field with a concussion, making him a doubt for Sunday's quarterfinal against either Mali or Equatorial Guinea.

Cape Verde were already down to 10 men before Vozinha's dismissal, as midfielder Patrick Andrade saw a straight red just before the half-hour mark.

Senegal's second goal was scored by forward Bamba Dieng in second-half stoppage time.
