The English Premier League club Manchester City on Friday extended the contract of German midfielder Ilkay Gundogan for another four years.

"The Germany midfielder has signed a new contract which keeps him at the Etihad Stadium until 2023 and is grateful he has the chance to try and help us fulfil our potential even further, " the club said in a statement.

"Playing for this club for three years is an amazing feeling and I am very grateful that I can continue and hopefully we can achieve more nice moments," Gundogan said.

The 28-year-old midfielder joined the Manchester City in June 2016 from the German club Borussia Dortmund.

Gundogan scored 17 goals in 115 appearances during his three-season spell with the English team.

He won two Premier League titles, two League Cups and a FA Cup with Manchester City.

The Turkish descent player produced five goals in 33 games for the German national team since October 2011.
