Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon will now play for French football heavyweights Paris Saint-Germain (PSG).

PSG on Friday announced their new signing on Twitter.

"Paris Saint-Germain are very happy to announce the arrival of Gianluigi Buffon," PSG said, as they welcomed the former Juventus goalkeeper.

Buffon, 40, previously played for Italian heavyweights Juventus for 17 years.

Buffon reportedly inked a one-year deal plus one additional year as optional.

"I know what dreams Paris Saint-Germain and its fans have in their hearts. I am going to bring all my energy, all my experience and all of my thirst to win to help my new club achieve all the great objectives it has set out for the future," Buffon said.

Buffon had 656 club appearances at Juventus, where he won 9 Italian Serie A titles.

The former Italian international also lifted the 2006 FIFA World Cup.
