Royal Dutch Football Association (KNVB) president, Michael van Praag, has withdrawn from the FIFA presidency race.
KNVB said on Thursday that Van Praag decided to support another candidate, Prince Ali Bin al-Hussein of Jordan.
It is understood 67-year-old Van Pragg will reveal his reasons at a press conference later.
Van Praag had announced his candidature in January. He would have increased the number of the World Cup qualifier countries from 32 to 40 if elected.
Dutch football legend Johan Cruyff and Netherlands national squad manager Guus Hiddink had supported Van Praag.
There are now three remaining candidates for the FIFA presidency: current FIFA President Sepp Blatter; Vice-President Prince Ali and former Portuguese star player Luis Figo.
The trio will be competing against each other ahead of elections to be held on May 29.
