ANKARA

Dutch football powerhouse Ajax Amsterdam prolonged their Argentine left back Nicolas Tagliafico's contract on Friday.

"Ajax and Nico Tagliafico have reached an agreement to extend his contract which was set to expire on June 30, 2022. The new deal will last until June 30, 2023," Ajax said in a statement.

Tagliafico, 28, joined Ajax in 2018 from Argentina's Independiente.

The Argentine international scored 12 goals and 16 assists in 111 matches for Ajax.

Tagliafico won the 2019 Dutch Eredivisie title with his club.

He played for his nation in the 2018 FIFA World Cup but Argentina were eliminated by France over a 4-3 loss in the Round of 16.
