NEW YORK
Many professional basketball players have joined in the protests against police violence and racism in the U.S.
National Basketball Association Cleveland Cavaliers forward LeBron James and several Brooklyn Nets players Kevin Garnett, Deron Williams, Jarrett Jack and Alan Anderson wore the "I Can’t Breathe" t-shirt before the match to protest a U.S. jury's controversial decision not to bring prosecute white police officers in the chokehold death of a black man.
"I Can't Breathe" were the final words of Eric Garner, choked to death by the New York Police Department officers in July.
Chicago Bulls point guard Derrick Rose protested against police brutality by also wearing the warm-up t-shirt on Saturday before the game against the Golden State Warriors.
There was a similar protest in the U.S. American Football League, the NFL, on Sunday when Detroit Lions player Reggie Bush also wore the t-shirt before the match against Tampa Bay.
A grand jury in New York decided the officers were responsible for Garner's death.
