Dutch champions to hold minute of silence for 16-year-old at friendly matches
Ajax youth player Noah Gesser died at the age of 16 after a car accident on Friday evening, the Dutch club announced on Saturday.
The young striker joined the Eredivisie champions in 2018 and was set to play for the Under-17 side this season, the club said in a statement.
“Ajax has received the terrible news that Noah Gesser has passed away. The 16-year-old youth academy player was killed in a car accident with his brother on Friday evening,” read the statement.
The club said there will be a minute of silence for Gesser before friendly matches of Ajax 1 and Young Ajax on Saturday.
“Ajax is deeply moved by this tragic event. The club wishes Gesser’s loved ones strength in the coming time in dealing with this immeasurable loss,” the statement said.
