Russian artillery strikes Wednesday in Ukraine’s Kharkiv and Dnipropetrovsk regions killed two people and injured five others.

The Ukrainian general prosecutor's office announced on Telegram that two civilians were killed as a result of shelling by the Russian military in the settlement of Dvorichna in Kharkiv.

The statement said an investigation of the matter had begun, noting that a 63-year-old woman was injured and a 71-year-old resident died due to the initial shelling.

"At 3.40 p.m., the occupiers fired at Dvorichna again, wounding a 75-year-old man. He was admitted to the hospital, where he died," the statement further said, adding that residential buildings were damaged.

Separately, four people were injured in the city of Nikopol in Dnipropetrovsk.

“The Russian army struck residential buildings in Nikopol. Rescuers pulled a 72-year-old man and a woman from under the rubble. They were hospitalized. Two more victims, an 87-year-old man and a 74-year-old woman, will be treated at home,” Dnipropetrovsk Governor Serhii Lysak said in a statement on Telegram.

Lysak further said that artillery shells damaged 13 private homes, two farm buildings and a car in the city, noting that a survey of the area is ongoing.

He also said in a later statement that Russian strikes damaged another private enterprise in the city in addition to hitting three low-pressure gas pipelines and a power line.

“All services work on the ground. The victims were provided with the necessary medical assistance,” the statement added.

Now in its second year, Russia's war has so far killed 8,490 civilians and wounded 14,244 others in Ukraine, according to the latest UN figures.
