President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi has accepted four conditions laid down by Houthi leader Abdel-Malak al-Houthi for ending Yemen's current political crisis, a government source has said.
"President Hadi has accepted the Houthi conditions," the source told The Anadolu Agency on Wednesday.
In a televised speech on Tuesday, al-Houthi listed four requirements for ending Yemen's political crisis.
These requirements, he said, included the need to reform the national agency tasked with monitoring the implementation of recommendations that came out of a national dialogue conference that concluded in January of last year.
He also called for amending Yemen's draft constitution; implementing a peace and partnership agreement; and improving the country's overall security situation.
The government source expected presidential decrees soon aimed at reforming the national agency, amending the constitution and taking other measures to defuse the crisis.
Yemen was rocked by more instability on Monday when Houthi militants clashed with presidential guard units before taking control of the presidential palace in Sanaa.
The Houthis, who have held Sanaa since last September, also detained Prime Minister Khaled Bahah inside the presidential palace.
Some Arab capitals claim the Houthi insurgency is funded by Shiite Iran.
Yemen has remained in a state of relative chaos since pro-democracy protests in 2011 forced autocratic President Ali Abdullah Saleh to step down one year later.
