UNITED NATIONS
The UN Security Council met in an emergency session for discussions on possible new sanctions against North Korea in retaliation for its third nuclear weapons test.
Council members expressed hope that they would agree on a swift condemnation of the North Korea at the end of the meeting, but negotiations on new sanctions could take weeks.
Last month, the Council adopted a resolution extending the previous sanctions on North Korea, and it warned the country against holding new tests.
Turkey uneasy about North Korea's nuclear test
Turkey has also expressed its uneasiness about North Korea's nuclear test on Tuesday.
"We are gravely concerned to learn that DPRK made an underground nuclear test today. Reports claiming that this test is evidently stronger than the previous two as well as the fact that this country recently tested a long-range missile further deepen our concerns," Turkish Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
