KIEV, Ukraine
The newly-formed Ukraine parliament has re-elected Arseniy Yatsenyuk as prime minister.
Yatsenyuk, proposed by President Petro Poroshenko, garnered the support of 341 of 450 lawmakers in parliament, also known as Verkhovna Rada on Thursday.
The president delivered a speech ahead of the vote asking for support for Yatsenyuk, saying: "The Ukraine constitution gives me 15 days to propose a prime minister and I need 15 seconds to ascertain him."
Yatsenyuk’s party, the People's Front won early elections on October 26, securing 22.17 percent of the vote.
Key role
The parliament is scheduled to choose a cabinet next week.
Yatsenyuk, 40, played a key role against Moscow-backed former president Viktor Yanukovich and took office as the 15th prime minister in February.
He also served as economy minister between 2005-2006, Foreign Minister in 2007 and Parliament Speaker between 2007 and 2008.
Two years later, Yatsenyuk also vied for the presidency, coming fourth in the presidential election.
Last year's Maidan protests led to Moscow-backed former president, Viktor Yanukovych, fleeing the country after he refused to sign a deal to have closer ties with the EU.
