Ted Cruz won the Republican convention in Wyoming on Saturday while fellow presidential hopeful Marco Rubio narrowly beat Ohio Governor John Kasich in Washington, D.C., ahead of crucial primaries in five large states.
In the only Democrat contest of the day, Hillary Clinton won in the Northern Mariana Islands. In Guam, Republicans voted to send nine delegates to the July convention but they were not pledged to any candidate.
Rubio took 37.3 percent of the vote in Washington, D.C., gaining ten delegates. With 66.3 percent of the vote in Wyoming, Cruz received nine of the state’s 12 delegates. Rubio and frontrunner Donald Trump took a delegate each.
Tuesday will see “make-or-break primaries” held in Illinois, Missouri, North Carolina, Ohio and Rubio’s home state Florida. Trump currently has 460 delegates, Cruz 370, Rubio 163 and Kasich 63.
Between the Democrat contenders, Clinton has 1,231 delegates against Bernie Sanders’ 576.
The successful Republican presidential candidate needs 1,237 of 1,401 delegates. To win the Democrat ticket, the candidate must receive 2,383 of 2,958 delegates.
