IZMIR/ADANA, EDIRNE, Turkey

Turkish police arrested 24 PKK/KCK suspects for their alleged links to the terrorist group in Turkey on Wednesday, security sources said.

Out of the total, 12 terror suspects including some officials of the opposition Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) were arrested in the southern Adana province for promoting terrorist propaganda, said the sources, who asked not to be named due to restrictions on speaking to the media.

Also, in the Aegean province of Izmir, police arrested 10 suspects for their alleged links with PKK/KCK terror group.

Separately, the gendarmerie held two PKK suspects in the northwestern Edirne province when they stopped a vehicle in the Uzunkopru district.

The suspects were later revealed to have criminal records on charges of spreading terrorist propaganda, using explosive substances and disrupting the unity and territorial integrity of the state.

They were preparing to escape to Greece, according to sources.

In its more than 30-year terror campaign against Turkey, the PKK -- listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and the EU -- has been responsible for the deaths of nearly 40,000 people, including women and children.
