LAGOS, Nigeria
Nigeria has reinstated at least 3,032 recently-dismissed soldiers, who were accused of various infractions during the country's battle against the Boko Haram insurgency.
Hundreds of soldiers accused of mutiny in the fight against Boko Haram had been recently sentenced to death or dismissed from the army by various military courts.
“The reinstated soldiers have shown their total readiness to be re-launched into theatre to combat the insurgency and have now commenced a re-training exercise at the Nigerian Army Training Centre [in] Kontagora,” army spokesman Sani Usman said.
Usman said those found guilty of criminal charges have had their sentencing upheld by the committee, adding that “not all the dismissed soldiers were granted pardon and recalled.”
