BEIRUT
The Lebanese army announced Sunday killing one Syrian national and detaining 21 others in the northern province of Akkar.
In a statement, the army said its troops had raided a hideout for wanted people in the province when the Syrian produced a hand grenade, prompting the troops to open fire.
It said two other Syrians were arrested with hand grenades in their possession.
In a separate statement, the Lebanese army said it had arrested 19 other Syrians for entering Akkar illegally.
It added that the arrested Syrians were referred to concerned agencies for interrogation.
Lebanon has received hundreds of thousands of refugees from war-torn neighboring Syria.
Two Islamist movements fighting against the Bashar al-Assad regime in Syria had in August clashed with Lebanese army troops in the eastern town of Arsal, killing 17 troops and kidnapping several others.
