JERUSALEM
The Likud Party on Sunday strongly lashed out at former justice minister Tzipi Livni and the Chairman of the Labor Party Isaac Herzog.
The party's criticism against the two politicians came only a short time after the stabbing by a Palestinian of an Israeli settler in Jerusalem earlier in the day.
The Likud Party, which is headed by incumbent Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, said that the stabbing of the Israeli settler came only weeks after Livni, the Labor Party's candidate for the post of prime minister, said she was ready to consider dividing Jerusalem in case of a settlement with the Palestinians.
It added in a statement that if Livni and Herzog formed Israel's next leftist government, Israelis would see the Palestinian faction Hamas at the heart of Jerusalem.
The Anadolu Agency could not immediately reach either Livni or Herzog to comment on the remarks of the Likud Party.
Israel should hold snap general elections in mid-March.
Earlier on Sunday, a Palestinian man stabbed an Israeli settler in Jerusalem, according to the Israeli army.
