ANKARA
The president of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) welcomed on Thursday the decrease in complaints to the court about Turkey.
Nicolas Bratza said he was pleased about Turkey's efforts to decrease complaints to ECHR and the court's rulings about violation of rights in the country.
It would be better to end human rights violations in Turkey with national steps, which would naturally decrease the number of cases filed to the ECHR, Bratza told AA correspondent in an exclusive interview in Ankara.
Bratza visited Turkey on occasion of the 50th anniversary of establishment of Turkey's Constitutional Court.
The ECHR president defined the right to make an individual application to Turkish Constitutional Court as a promising development that would reduce number of complaints to ECHR.
Bratza said most of complaints to ECHR stemmed from long trial processes in Turkey, and what the court was doing when asking the country to compensate the plaintiff was to encourage it to make reforms.
The ECHR president said the court had welcomed positive steps taken by Turkey, and would continue to do so in further steps.
