JERUSALEM
"You (Barrack Obama) have made it clear that you are determined to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons. ... Not withstanding our joint efforts and your great success in mobilizing the international community, diplomacy and sanctions so far have not stopped Iran's nuclear program," said Netanyahu at the joint press conference US President Barrack Obama and Netanyahu held in Jerusalem on the occasion of Obama's official visit to Israel. "My view is that in order to stop Iran's nuclear programs peacefully, diplomacy and sanctions must be augmented by clear and credible threat of military action."
Netanyahu stressed the importance of the relations between the two countries by saying that Israel had "no better friend" than the US.
Netanyahu said that both of the countries were determined to prevent the deadly arsenal of weapons within Syria from falling into the hands of the terrorists.
"I have no doubt that the best way to do that is to work closely with the United States and other countries in the region to address this challenge, and that is what we intend to do," said Netanyahu.
Peace talks with Palestine with no pre-conditions
Underlining that the new coalition government he formed was determined to facilitate a two state solution between the two communities in regard to stalled peace process talks with Palestine, Netanyahu said "let us leave aside all pre-conditions. Let us work together to achieve an historic compromise. This would end clashes for all of us."
Thanking President Obama for making his first overseas trip to Israel in his second term as US President, Netanyahu said "Welcome to Israel and Jerusalem".
Netanyahu answered a question that was directed at President Obama on the issue of Iran.
Netanyahu said that he was sure President Obama was determined to prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons.
President Obama, as no other president indicated so in the past, underlined that Israel had the right to defend itself against any threat, Netanyahu noted.
"The president announced that in addition to all the aid that his administration has provided, including Iron Dome, including defense funding for Israel during very difficult times, he has announced that we are going to begin talks on another 10-year process -- arrangement to ensure American military assistance to Israel. I think this is very significant," Netanyahu also said.
