SARAJEVO, Bosnia-Herzegovina
Bosnia’s largest political party elected the son of the country’s first president as its leader on Tuesday.
Bakir Izetbegovic was voted president of the right-wing Party of Democratic Action (SDA), securing 590 out of 755 ballots.
Izetbegovic, 58, has also been the Muslim Bosniak member of the country’s tripartite presidency since 2010.
He had previously been the party's deputy to Sulejman Tihic.
The SDA, which is part of Bosnia’s coalition government, was founded by Alija Izetbegovic and won the republic’s first multi-party elections in 1990.
