Iranian officials stated on Saturday that an MI6 spy was arrested in Iran's south-eastern city of Kerman.
Following the news reports about the arrest, Britain's foreign office stated they do not make any comments on intelligence matters.
A news report of Iranian official news agency IRNA quoted Head of Kerman Revolution Court Dadkhah Salari who stated that "Spy had made 11 direct contacts with British intelligence officers inside and outside Iran during which he had provided them with pieces of information".
Identity or the nationality of the alleged spy has not been revealed. Furthermore, BBC news report regarding the topic drew attentions to Iran's regular moves of capturing spies working for foreign powers.
MI6 is one of the British intelligence agency of the country, in charge of collecting UK's foreign intelligence.
In addition, UK and Iran were recovering their bilateral relations lately as both countries appointed "non-resident" charge d'affaires.
Following the Iran visit of Ajay Sharma, the British charge d'affaires, his counterpart Hassan Habibollahzadeh, Iran's non-resident charge d'affaires to the UK, paid a visit to the UK within this week. This is the first visit since 2011 when diplomatic staff were withdrawn from Iran and Iranian diplomats were expelled from London.
The incident where a group of student protestors in the Iranian capital stormed the British Embassy during a demonstration against British sanctions in Iran resulted in both British and Iranian embassies being closed.
The attack on the Tehran Embassy following the UK's decision to sanction Iran over its nuclear programme was described as the worst crisis to occur between the two countries since the 1979 Islamic Revolution.
