Violent clashes erupt in Syria’s Raqqa between Syrian forces and YPG/SDF terror group Syrian army forces advance west of the Euphrates River as operations continue against the terrorist organization YPG, operating under the name SDF (Syrian Democratic Forces), moving toward the strategic city of Tabqa and the Tabqa Dam in southern Raqqa province, Syria, on January 17, 2026.

Fierce clashes have erupted in Syria’s northeastern Raqqa province between Syrian forces -- backed by local residents and tribes -- and YPG/SDF terrorists, while the number of civilians killed by sniper fire from the group rose to four.

In Raqqa, where local people and tribes have launched an uprising and largely regained control from the YPG/SDF, heavy fighting continues between Syrian forces and the terror group.

Local residents and tribal fighters are supporting Syrian Army forces in confrontations with the terrorists.

Intense gunfire has been heard across the area as Syrian forces attempt to clear the city of terrorist elements.

Meanwhile, the death toll from sniper attacks carried out by YPG/SDF terrorists targeting civilians rose to four.

At least 10 people wounded in the terrorist attacks have been taken to hospitals in the city.
