US launches fresh airstrikes in Yemen: Houthis

ISTANBUL

US warplanes launched fresh airstrikes in Yemen in an escalation of operations, the Houthi group said Monday.

US aircraft conducted two airstrikes in Majzar District in Marib governorate, the Houthi-run Al-Masirah TV channel reported.

The channel did not provide further details on the strikes or potential casualties.

Separately, Al-Masirah reported that the US had carried out 25 airstrikes in At Tuhayta District in Al Hudaydah governorate since Monday morning, without providing further details.

The US has not yet commented on the reports.

Earlier Monday, the group said US airstrikes Sunday evening killed 12 people and injured 30 in the Farwa neighborhood market in Sanaa's Shuub district.

It further said that the US has carried out nearly 1,000 airstrikes on Yemen since March 15.

On Sunday, the Houthis warned that the US was preparing for a ground operation in Yemen, cautioning that such a move “threatens to fully destabilize the situation.”

The US has carried out hundreds of airstrikes in Yemen since March 15, killing 217 civilians and injuring 436, mostly women and children, based on official Houthi data that excludes losses among their forces.

US President Donald Trump said last month that he had ordered “decisive and powerful military action” against the Houthi group and later threatened to “completely annihilate them.”

The Houthis have targeted ships passing through the Red and Arabian seas, the Bab al-Mandab Strait and the Gulf of Aden since November 2023 in solidarity with Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, where at least 51,000 people have been killed in a brutal Israeli assault.

The group halted attacks when a ceasefire in Gaza was declared in January between Israel and the Palestinian resistance group Hamas but resumed them after Israel renewed airstrikes on the enclave last month.
